The Royal Asiatic Society Books<\/h1>\n

[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2\/3″][vc_column_text css=””]The policy of the Society\u2019s Editorial Board is to make available in appropriate formats the results of original research in the humanities and social sciences having to do with Asia, defined in the broadest geographical and cultural sense and up to the present day. The Society publishes several books each year as part of the Monograph Series<\/strong>, whose coverage spans all of Asia.<\/p>\n

There is also the Ibrahim Pasha of Egypt Fund Series<\/strong>, established in 2002 by Princess Fazil\u00e9 Ibrahim to encourage the growth and development of Ottoman studies internationally. The Series publishes documents and manuscripts of historical importance from the classical period up to 1839, with transliteration, full or part translation and scholarly commentaries. This series is published in association with the Edinburgh University Press and more details can be found on their website here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The two volumes of Tod\u2019s publication, first published in 1829\u201332, remain to this day the first port of call for anyone interested in the history and culture of Rajasthan and the early colonial encounter in India. This re-issue of the original text including over 80 original copperplate engravings, woodblock prints, and lithographs returns the text to its original state, while the accompanying companion volume critically reframes this monumental, but often misunderstood, work. Re-articulating the variety of voices that simultaneously inhabit Tod\u2019s\u00a0Annals<\/em>, the revised volume argues for a more conjunctural, contingent, and open-ended reading of colonial history.<\/p>\n
