If a Special Issue is larger than the average issue allowance then the other issues in the same volume year will need to accommodate for this fact (by being smaller). Special issues are generally in the range of 160\u2013220 printed journal pages, and must not exceed 220 pages. Please retype your entries.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>General layout <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All articles (text and footnotes) must appear in double spaced text throughout.<\/li>\n<li>Main text should be size 12 point, Times Roman font (except for foreign characters and diacritics). Left and right justified.<\/li>\n<li>Abstract and footnotes should be size 10 point, Times Roman font. Left and right justified.<\/li>\n<li>The title of the article and the author\u2019s name, should appear at the beginning of the article (all centred 12 point Times Roman font). Author\u2019s affiliation and email address (preferably linked to your institution) should be present at the end of the article (ranged right).<\/li>\n<li>A \u2018short\u2019 title (no more than 30 characters, including spaces, to be used as the running head in the published article), should be provided.<\/li>\n<li>An abstract of maximum 200 words summarising the content of the article should be appear before the main text.<\/li>\n<li>Sub-headings must be used to break up articles.<\/li>\n<li>Do not use Roman numerals as section headings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please follow the JRAS \u2018house style\u2019 outlined in the notes below. For matters that are not covered in these notes, please refer to the New Oxford Style Manual, third edition, 2016.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Spell out centuries: i.e. \u2018nineteenth century\u2019 rather than \u201819th century\u2019, \u2018tenth century\u2019 rather than \u201810th century\u2019, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Spell out numbers 1\u201310: i.e. \u2018one\u2019, \u2018two\u2019, \u2018three\u2019, etc. All other numbers should be represented as numerals.<\/li>\n<li>Spell out %: i.e. \u201815 per cent\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>Em-dashes should be used when punctuating text.<\/li>\n<li>\u2018c.\u2019 should always be spelled out and italics: \u2018<em>circa<\/em>\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>In references, there should be a space between \u2018p.\u2019 and its number, i.e. \u2018p. 15\u2019. \u2018ed.\u2019 and \u2018eds.\u2019\/ and trans. should be in () brackets.<\/li>\n<li>A person\u2019s initials should have a space: i.e. R. D. Hume.<\/li>\n<li>With footnote layout, please follow rules below, and maintain consistency.<\/li>\n<li>Please use \u2018and\u2019 rather than \u2018&amp;\u2019, especially when referring to authors.<\/li>\n<li>Please spell out, at first mention, all acronyms and initialisms.<\/li>\n<li>Long quotations should be size 11 point, Times Roman font. Left and right justified, with one line spacing above and below main text. Paragraphs should be ranged left with one line space between each, and not enclosed in quotation marks. All quotations must be acknowledged and fully referenced within a footnote.<\/li>\n<li>Use double inverted commas for short quotations and phrases within the main text, then single quotations for quotes-within-quotes.<\/li>\n<li>Tables should be clearly laid out and numbered consecutively. Vertical lines between columns should be omitted, if possible.<\/li>\n<li>All British spellings, \u2018s\u2019 rather than \u2018z\u2019 for &#8230;ise\/ization (materialise, constitutionalise, etc.), and, for example, \u2018analyse\u2019 not \u2018analyze\u2019, \u2018colour\u2019 not \u2018color\u2019, \u2018programme\u2019 not \u2018program\u2019. Double \u2018ll\u2019 in verbs for example \u2018travelling\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>Please use the phrase \u2018this article\u2019 rather than \u2018this essay\u2019 or \u2018this paper\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>Dates: English format please, i.e. day, month, year, i.e. 14 July 2009.<\/li>\n<li>Figures, and totals in tables, references and footnote numbers should be checked for accuracy.<\/li>\n<li>Paragraphs (except directly under a heading, where they should be flush left) should be indented by 4mm, with no line space.<\/li>\n<li>Section (A) headings should be 12 point, bold, centred, with one line space above and below, with initial upper case only except for proper nouns, i.e. \u2018The political economy of Uttar Pradesh and the mobility saga\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>Second level (B) headings should be 12 point <em>italic<\/em>, centred, with one line space above and below.<\/li>\n<li>Footnote numbers and text (10 point) should be indented paragraphs (4mm), one space between footnote number and its text.<\/li>\n<li>No line separator between main text and footnotes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;2.
