Yesterday, Thursday 12th<\/sup> January marked the start of events to celebrate the Society\u2019s bicentenary. As part of the celebrations Professor Michael Loewe<\/a> has donated a set of the first edition of the\u00a0Collected Works of Sir William Jones\u00a0(8 quarto volumes, edited by Lady Jones) and the associated\u00a0Life\u00a0of Jones by Lord Teignmouth.\u00a0Professor Loewe\u2019s gift was honoured by our President, Professor Sarah Ansari, before Professor Javed Majeed FBA lectured on the academic and cultural significance of Sir William Jones\u2019s scholarship.<\/p>\n

The books were displayed in the Reading Room to be examined and enjoyed by attendees of the event. We would like to again thank Professor Michael Loewe for the volumes and Dr Gordon Johnson for his enabling of the gift.<\/p>\n
