If you don\u2019t fancy venturing out in the cold weather, most of these will also be held as virtual events which people can join in from home.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Amir Parsa Lecture:<\/u><\/h4>\n

This Tuesday (23rd<\/sup> November), the Society welcomed Amir Parsa who gave a lecture on \u2018Patriarchal Honour, Women, and War:\u00a0The Concept of ‘Namus’ in Naderid Iran’s Military Narratives\u2019. <\/em>The event was well attended with Amir exploring the concept of n\u0101mus which was documented in writings during the rule of N\u0101der <\/em>Shah Afshar (1688-1747).[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]For those of you who missed the lecture, the recording will be available on the Society\u2019s YouTube<\/a> channel in the coming days. Last week\u2019s lecture by Dr. Lesley Pullen on \u2018Patterned Splendour: Textiles Depicted on Javanese Sculpture 8th to 15th Century\u2019<\/em> is now available<\/a><\/strong> on YouTube for people to view.[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

December Events: <\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Professor Alka Patel book launch reminder: <\/u><\/em><\/h4>\n

Next Friday evening (3rd<\/sup> December) at 6.30pm, the Society will be holding a hybrid book launch for Professor Alka Patel\u2019s publication \u2018Iran to India:\u00a0The Shansab\u0101n\u012bs of Afghanistan, c. 1145-1190 CE\u2019.\u00a0<\/em>This will be a joint event with the Islamic Art Circle. To register, please email mb@royalasiaticsociety.org<\/a> stating your preference for attending in-person or virtually.<\/p>\n

Rustaveli Day: <\/u><\/em><\/h4>\n

The annual Rustaveli Day celebrations will be taking place at the Society on Thursday 2nd<\/sup> December at 6pm with this year\u2019s theme on \u2018Handel & Rhadamistus (Radamisto) \u2013 The Opera, The Story & The History\u2019. <\/em>This will include talks from Dr Manana Odisheli (Oxford) on \u2018Radamisto: The forgotten story of power-struggle in the Caucasus\u2019<\/em> and Dr Ruth Smith (Cambridge\/The Handel Institute) on \u2018An opera fit for a king? Handel\u2019s Radamisto (1720)\u2019. <\/em><\/p>\n

This event will be in-person only<\/em>, taking place on the Society\u2019s premises. To register, please email mb@royalasiaticsociety.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Two more events for December have also recently been announced. On Thursday 9th<\/sup> December, Dr. Jennifer Howes will be giving a lecture on \u2018The Story Tellers of Mysore: Tipu Sultan\u2019s female entourage and the 1806 Vellore Mutiny\u2019.<\/em> The Society will also welcome Dr. Bora Keskiner on Friday 10th<\/sup> December for the launch of his book \u2018Y\u0101q\u016bt al-Musta\u2019sim\u012b and the Practise of Naql in Islamic Calligraphy\u2019. <\/em>More information will be announced about these in due course.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
